What is Toastmasters
Toastmasters is a world leading educational development organisation, delivering
many hours of experiencial learning, every week, to some 235,000 participating members in 12,036
clubs in 106 countries - using a proven programme to increase communication and leadership
skills - across the globe - with only a "handful" of staff.
What's Coming Up in District 73
Currently, District 73 encompasses a vast area including the States of Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia and Western
Australia, and is growing in Clubs and Member numbers all the time. We are now planning for a major milestone in our history -
the creation of a new District. We are in our transition phases now, as we work on the creation
of the fourth District in Australia, based in Western Australia, to join District 73, Queensland's District 69 and District 70
in New South Wales.
We are also already planning for our 2011 Convention, which will be held in Perth, in May 2011, with Toastmasters across the
District expected to gather in record numbers, for competitions, workshops, and an experience that will not be forgotten.
The World Champion of Public Speaking
Toastmasters International's pre-eminent speaking award is the World Champion of Public Speaking.
Across all Districts around the world, a four-day International Convention in August includes the competition
that is a culmination of a full year of development for the individuals - and their speeches. The
winner of the District International Speech Contest will attend the International Convention. 2010's was going to be in Sydney - but with international
conditions, it will now be held in America, but Toastmasters in Australia look forward to the
next opportunity to hold the first International Convention outside of the United States. In 2009, another winner
from Australia achieved this outstanding success!
International President Visit
2009 was very exciting for District 73, as we enjoyed a visit from Toastmasters'
International President, Jana Barnhill, DTM. Not only is she the International President, she
has gone through the ranks as members all around the world do; and has placed in 2nd and 3rd place
in the World Championship of Public Speaking in her speaking career. Toastmasters International
